“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10

SOLOMON OFFERS UNTO GOD
1 Kings 3:4-28 ERV
King Solomon went to Gibeon to offer a sacrifice because that was the most important high place. He offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. While Solomon was at Gibeon, the LORD came to him at night in a dream. God said, “Solomon, ask me what you want me to give you.” Solomon answered, “You were very kind and loyal to your servant, my father David. He was faithful to you and lived a good, honest life. And you showed him the greatest kindness when you let his son take his place as king. LORD my God, you have made me the king in my father’s place, but I am like a small child. I don’t have the wisdom I need to do what I must do. I am your servant here among your chosen people. There are so many that they cannot be counted. So I ask you to give me the wisdom to rule and judge them well and to help me know the difference between right and wrong. Without such great wisdom, it would be impossible to rule this great nation.” The LORD was happy that Solomon asked for wisdom. So God said to him, “You did not ask for long life and riches for yourself. You did not ask for the death of your enemies. You asked for the wisdom to listen and make the right decisions. So I will give you what you asked for. I will make you wise and intelligent. I will make you wiser than anyone who ever lived or ever will live. And I will also give you what you did not ask for. You will have riches and honor all your life. There will be no other king in the world as great as you. And I will give you a long life if you follow me and obey my laws and commands as your father David did.”
Wisdom can be said to be the ability to discern correctly. Wisdom can be said to be one’s ability to judge correctly and to possess good sense.
Some individuals say that Wisdom is the application of knowledge, but not with standing wisdom in our context of the scriptures today refers to a personality, it refers to Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the wisdom of God. The book of wisdom in the Bible called Proverbs actually centers on the man Jesus Christ and so the best way to acquire godly wisdom, the things which King Solomon and other philosophers put together, is by coming to know Jesus Christ personally and accepting to follow his ways.
“…but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
1 Corinthians 1:24-25
but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
After his offering of 1,000 animals God was moved and asked Solomon to ask for one thing, the man simply asked God for wisdom to lead God’s people aright. Solomon decided to ask God to fill him with the ability to judge Matters correctly in the way that God would himself have judged such matters. He asked God to fill him with the ability of leading the Israelites just as Jesus Christ would lead his church. In Matthew 6:33, the Lord Jesus Christ makes it clear that when anyone seeks the kingdom of God and its righteousness first, when any person commit his or her life to seeking after the things of the kingdom of God and how to do what is right as it is done in the kingdom of God, He is pleased with that person because such a has asked correctly. The promise that follows is that all all the other things will be added to the person, there is no doubt in that.
Today, many people prefer to pursue the other things and neglect the matters pertaining to the kingdom of God, and many people care less of whether what they do is wrong or displeases God. Such is the wisdom of the world, and people who live this way will struggle in life and not find divine support in whatever thing they are doing.
If you concentrate your life on knowing Jesus, becoming like Jesus, following Jesus by denying yourself, your will, your interest and taking up your cross daily to follow Jesus Christ, you will surely discover that you have lost nothing, rather you decided to lose everything in order to gain those things and much more without your own effort.
Choose Wisdom today, choose the Lord Jesus Christ today.
